Book Tag: Never Have I Ever (Original Tag)

I see tons of these Never Have I Ever challenges going around Youtube, whether it is about Youtubers or celebrities. I thought it would be interesting to do one surrounding the topic of books. However, I couldn’t find one I liked, so I’m making one up myself! I know, I’m a rebel.

Never Have I Ever originated as a drinking game, also known as “Ten Fingers,” where a person would make a statement (like Never Have I Ever eaten dirt) and anyone who has done that action must put one finger down (and often drink). In this case, the tally of scores at the end decides the winner. That is, whoever has the most fingers up by the end. Now that that’s out of the way…

Let’s go!

Never Have I Ever…read a later book in a series before reading the first book

I have, but rarely. There are certain series that don’t really need to be read in order (like the Hercule Poirot series by Agatha Christie). But for a most part, I try to read a series in order.

Never Have I Ever…burned a book

I haven’t, though I will say there are been certain books I’ve been tempted to burn.

Never Have I Ever…read a book I knew I would hate

I haven’t done this one either. There have been many books that I hated, but none that I knew going into that I would hate.

Never Have I Ever…wrote a fanfiction about my favorite books

I’m a writer…I write things. And when I read something I love, of course I want to write about. Saying that, I will say when someone says the word ‘fanfiction,’ I feel like people assume it’s shallow and raunchy. Those I’ve never—nor will ever—write. But as for digging deeper into the world of my favorite books, that I’ve done a lot.

Never Have I Ever…loved a book when I was young and hated it when I got older

I’m surprised to answer that no, I’ve never loved a book that I hate now. I will say my tastes have changed and while my childhood books aren’t as meaningful as they used to be, I still enjoy them. And some books I read when I was younger I enjoy more now.

Never Have I Ever…dressed up as one of my favorite literary characters

Let me think…I don’t think so, no. This is astonishing to me. I mean, as a child I dressed up at Halloween, but never as a literary character. I also have worn historical costumes (from Regency to medieval, etc.), but never as a specific character. I feel like I’m missing out…

Never Have I Ever…hated a book by an author I love

I’m not sure…this one could go either way. I’ve read some books by authors I love that were disappointing, but I wouldn’t say I hated them. Most of them were still okay books, just not as good as previous one(s) I enjoyed. So I guess I’ll keep a finger up.

Never Have I Ever…gone into a bookstore to buy one book and come out with many more

Every self-respecting book-lover has done this, I’m sure. I mean, the point of going to a bookstore is to buy too many books! So yes, I’m guilty of this one!

Never Have I Ever…read the end of a book before reading the beginning

No, I don’t think I have. I have many times been halfway through the book, hating it, and decided to read how it ended. But I’ve never read the ending before reading the beginning.

Never Have I Ever…read a book without the dust cover

No, I haven’t. This is something common I see a lot, where readers will take off the dust cover of a hardback book to read it. I haven’t done this, mostly because the whole point of a dust cover is to protect the book, so why would I take it off?

My final score is 7 fingers up, which means I only put 3 fingers down. Let me know what your score was down in the comments. Also, if anyone wants to do this on their blog, I would love to read their answers!

Best wishes in your life full of adventure,

Madame Writer
