My Favorite Book With…Red Covers

Recently I’ve been seeing a new type of blog post go around where you pick your favorite color and choose some of your favorite books with the cover of that color. But honestly, I love most every color and depending on the day or time I will probably answer differently to the question: “What’s your favorite color?”

So, instead of picking one color, I want to start a short series on my blog where I share with you my favorite books with different color covers. For today, I picked red, which is most likely to be my favorite color 25% of the time. So, let’s go!

How The Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss

I grew up loving this story, mostly because I identified with the Grinch so much. He was grumpy, he wanted to live all alone on a mountain in silence with his dog…it was exactly what I wanted to do. Now, I’m pretty sure this cover isn’t exclusively in red, but the edition I read was. This is one of my favorite Christmas stories of all time!

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

There are quite a few of Agatha Christie’s books with red covers (such as The Mysterious Affair At Styles). However, I picked out this one because it is probably one of Christie’s best books and by far my favorite. It is dark, gritty, and the ending has such a twist. Christie is known for her twist endings, but personally this one in my favorite. Again, different editions have different covers, but this one is the one I read, so this one is the one we’re going with.

Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann

I read this book last year and it was one of my favorite books of 2017. It tells of the real life murders of members of the Osage Indian Nation in the 1920s. It is truly a sad and moving story of greed and murder. Grann does a great job in making the story feel as if you are reading a fiction thriller while still reminding you of the sad reality. It is one of my favorite true crime books.

The Life She Was Given by Ellen Marie Wiseman

This book was one of my first reviews I ever did on my blog (you can check out my full review here). It tells the story of two young women several decades apart, one in the 1930s who is sold by her parents to the circus, and one in the 1950s who is searching through her family’s dark past. It certain wasn’t a perfect book, but the setting was done really well.

The Ghost of Christmas Past (Molly Murphy #17) by Rhys Bowen

One of my favorite historical mystery series is the Molly Murphy series, and this is the most recent addition to this series, released in Nov. 2017. As the name suggests, it is a murder mystery set on Christmas holiday. Obviously, I would recommend to start with the beginning of the series, but this one has a red cover, so I picked it for this list.

Anguished English: An Anthology of Accidental Assaults Upon Our Language by Richard Lederer

This was an amazing find I discovered at the Goodwill a couple years ago (this and its sequel). It is filled with the most hilarious typos imaginable. Here are a couple examples: “A fossil is an extinct animal. The older it is, the more extinct it is.” “Although the patient had never been fatally ill before, he woke up dead.” “Yoko Ono will talk about her husband, John Lennon, who was killed in an interview with Barbara Walters.” And these are just a few examples among hundreds. It’s a completely hilarious and light read.

Forgotten Ally: China’s World War II 1937-1945 by Rana Mitter

Those who follow my blog will know I just did a review of this book a couple days ago (you can check out my full review here). It’s a historical, nonfiction book which tells of China’s position before and during WWII. It is an exceptional but also a bit sad read which I thoroughly enjoyed.
