NaPoWriMo 2018: Day 30 (Last Day!)

(“A Sonnet is a poem consisting of 14 lines (iambic pentameter) with a particular rhyming scheme…A Shakespearean (English) sonnet has three quatrains and a couplet, and rhymes abab cdcd efef gg.”) (source) (I’m doing the English version, as opposed to the Italian or French, which is a little different.)

There once was a man

There once was a man who lived all alone
He lived there so long, nobody knew when
Upon a lonely hill he picked his home
An old forgotten house outside Berlin
That man had seen two wars decimating
He saw when Hitler’s army moved through town
He heard the echoes of voices screaming
Saw the Berlin Wall rise and then fall down
Lost his hand in the Battle of Berlin
Brought flowers to his sons’ graves every day
Did he remember how the world had been
Before the bombs fell and peace was destroyed?
And when he died, no one will remember
The man who lives all alone forever.
